If the motards are street legal... You will get people to buy them.

Street legal is good! Sell it with a set of dirt wheels too. Lots of people would be interested in a 2 in 1 bike. Helps to make the extra money easier to swallow.

Any way to bore and stroke it to over 500cc? Something magical about that level.. Close enough to a 600 to say hmmmm, worth a looky! Would help it stand out from the 450 crowd too I think..

The hand writing is on the wall! More states are making EPA cert mandatory for dual sporting. Now, Husky and KTM sell out the licensed bikes. It is hard in most states to do real cross country fun riding without crossing public roads.
If the ATK 450 was street legal in California, I wouldn't have bought a Husky and sold my 605.

Of course, I am assuming the motard will be licensable and the dirt bikes right behind.

A True SM is not just a Dual Sport with 17" wheels. The travel is reduced the front brake is bigger, etc. How does the our 450 compare to the Aprilia SXV? I am a Racer and Street SM rider and have been riding SM's for 5 years. To be able to use a SM for Dirt you need alot of adjustment in the Suspension.

In wonderful California it seems that it has become somewhat difficult to ride the dirt with out a street licenced bike. Alot of Forest Service Roads require street legal vehicles. It can be done but you need to trailer your bike, carry extra fuel, then if you need something you have to secure your bike and drive your car. Bikes were meant to be ridden not carried on a trailer.
I am not certain of the regulations between street legal SM and dual sports but maybe they would go hand in hand. I like the idea of buying an American made dual sport and keepimg American made money in America. Honestly, I am getting tired of having to buy products made somewhere else because there are not any made here.
Build it and sales will come! (I know I will be in line)

I can say this with all honesty. I would have bought a street legal ATK rather than a KTM. I've always wanted a ATK and in time I will have one. If there is a CAl street legal dual sport as an option it will shorten the time for me to get one.

Here in the land of the free, where we are globally lambasted for our excessive resource usage, we cannot even ride a motorcycle in CA or perhaps in MA even.

In socialized Europe, they don't stand for such nonsense. They have always been far dirtier in their emissions on all vehicles, only recently adopting catalytics and lead free gas. And on any Sunday, you can find roving bands of dirty dual sporters and quads on the road in search of natural earth to roost on. I have the photos to prove it too!

build them like your old rotax powered 605 that was street legal. You could purchase it with knobby wheels or street wheels. Best of both worlds.......
